To celebrate National Pet Day, the National Today data science team surveyed 1,000 Americans to see how many had pets.
Do the following results surprise you?
19% responded that they did have a pet of some kind.
71% responded they were not pet owners, and 10% did not respond to the question.
Of those with pets 45% of them have a dog, 30% a cat, 9% a fish, 5% a bird and 2% have a hamster, gerbil or mouse.
22% of Americans say they are attracted to other who treat their pets like a member of the family.
11% of American say they like to “hang out” with their pets (watch TV, gaming, reading)
10% say their pet is their best friend
10% talk to their pets in a “special” voice
Owning a dog decreases the risk of heart disease by 36%
10% of pet owners are allergic to their pet
57% of households own a pet
5000 – 7000 Tigers are kept at pets in the U.S.
